Poppy Nash 2026 residency in Berlin
In 2026, the Berliner Medizinhistorisches Museum der Charité presented Horizontal: Politics and Poetics from the Sickbed, an exhibition exploring how our perception and relationship with the world change when the bed becomes the centre of our lives. Bringing together historical objects and archival materials with contemporary art, activist perspectives, and lived experiences, the exhibition considers the sickbed not only as a place of medical treatment but also as a site of care, solidarity, participation, and rest.
With support from the British Council, Scottish artist Poppy Nash took part in the exhibition. Her practice spans textiles, screen printing and digital embroidery and is rooted in archival research. In this video, Poppy talks about her research in the archives of the Berliner Medizinhistorisches Museum der Charité, the work she created for the exhibition and her residency at ZK/U in Berlin, supported by Creative Scotland.

Change in Perspective: Inclusion in the Visual Arts seminar, March 2025
How can we create a more inclusive future for the visual arts in Germany? This question was at the heart of the seminar Perspektivwechsel: Inklusion in der Bildenden Kunst (Change in Perspective: Inclusion in the Visual Arts), organised by the British Council in collaboration with BBK Bundesverband, Deutscher Künstlerbund and IGBK, and expertly moderated by Dr. Kate Brehme (Berlinklusion).
The event brought together cultural experts from Germany and the UK to discuss structural gatekeeping in arts education and artistic practice, and to share practical approaches to fostering greater inclusion across the sector. Drawing on inspiring examples, speakers explored how sustainable change can be achieved in artists’ organisations and beyond.
