FameLab is the world’s leading science communication competition. Participants have just three minutes to win over the judges and crowd with a scientific talk that excels for its content, clarity and charisma.
Every year, we see some of the most impressive young researchers on the FameLab regional heat stages across Germany. The two best partipants of every regional heat go on to the national final in Bielefeld to compete for the chance to represent Germany at the FameLab International final at the Cheltenham Science Festival in the UK.

In 2020, FameLab will take place for the tenth year, with the competition heats taking place in five cities across Germany: Karlsruhe, Berlin/Potsdam, Bielefeld, Regensburg and Dresden. FameLab Germany 2019 contestant Thora Schubert made it to the international final in Cheltenham
Ten young researchers took the stage in Bielefeld to compete in the FameLab Germany Final 2019. An audience of over 1,200 people enjoyed an enlightening and exciting glimpse into the world of science with topics ranging from neural networks to photonic computing. All the presentations are available on our YouTube channel.
The winner was Thora Schubert, who convinced the jury with her explanation of carbon capture and storage and her talk on managing geo-resources. Thora, who is currently studying the management of georesources as a postgraduate at RWTH Aachen, also represented Germany at the International FameLab Final in Cheltenham where she made it to the final – a great achievement!
