The British Council has released the 12th edition of Human Stories, a digital storytelling series that captures the personal experiences of people who have engaged with British Council programmes across Europe.

This new edition features first-person accounts from Latvia, Estonia, France and beyond — including a youth ambassador, an acclaimed literary translator, and an artist working on a UK–France arts initiative. Together, their stories highlight how culture, education and language shape individual lives and strengthen international connections.

Launched in 2022, Human Stories aims to put real people at the centre of communications, illustrating the impact of the British Council’s work through authentic voices and lived experiences. The stories are produced collaboratively by teams across the region and are shared on the British Council’s European digital platforms.

Human Stories forms part of the British Council’s wider commitment to cultural relations — building mutual understanding and trust through the arts, education and the English language.

About the British Council

The British Council is the UK’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities. We support peace and prosperity by building connections, understanding and trust between people in the UK and countries worldwide. We do this through our work in arts and culture, education and the English language. We work with people in over 200 countries and territories and are on the ground in more than 100 countries. In 2022-23 we reached 600 million people. For 90 years, the British Council has built global connections through the arts, education, and the English language. Every year, 100 million people improve their English language communication skills and prove their English proficiency with us. We deliver 4 million exams in 140 countries, enabling access to UK qualifications. In partnership with 40 national governments and supporting 4 million educators, we improve English teaching and empower learners worldwide with lifelong skills for work, study, travel and communication with the world.
