Working with academic writing in English is a cognitively demanding task for both student and lecturer. This course for non-native English-speaking lecturers teaching non-native English-speaking students in English will develop your understanding and give you new strategies for dealing with student academic written output. 

Content

Academic writing English:

  • Composition as a process and the constraints on the writer
  • Language and academic literacy

Helping learners with academic writing:

  • Pre-writing interventions and tasks
  • Writing as a collaborative process

Dealing with learners’ academic written output:

  • Corrective feedback
  • Developmental activities for learner writing

 

Outcomes

  • A better understanding of learners’ academic writing
  • New tools and techniques for developing academic writing
  • New tools and techniques for written corrective feedback
