Towards An Information Society for All
The TISA conference series
A multilateral event organised by the British Council France, Germany, Italy, Romania and the United Kingdom, the TISA series of conferences brought together politicians, policy makers, experts and practitioners in the information field to discuss the main issues concerned with the growing knowledge and information society. This included new opportunities and benefits such as e-learning, e-democracy and e-governance, as well as challenges and problem areas such as diversity, user education and social exclusion.

TISA4 - Better lives, better communities was held in October 2004 at British Council Bucharest in Romania. It took the form of a number of speeches and panel discussions, along with presentations on a series of projects from all over the region that have had lasting effects on communities, narrowed the digital divide, improved quality of life, and whose models might be replicable or provide inspiration within other environments. As a follow up it is intended that the findings from the conference will feed into the World Summit on the Information Society in Tunis in 2005.

TISA3 - Virtual Services for Real People
(September 2003, Paris) built on the two successful British Council conferences held in 2001 in Bologna, and in 2002 in Berlin, where practitioners and policy makers from around Europe met to consider the present state of development of the emerging Information Society across Europe.

TISA2 - New Pathways to Knowledge, having taken place in Paris in 2002, focussed on national ICT policies and their practical implications for the lives of individuals and the creation of better communities.

TISA1- A European Perspective, held in Bologna/Italy in 2001, produced a significant consensus in the processes and priorities for the creation of a society where everyone has the opportunity to benefit from the new information and communications technologies.
