Academic Research Collaboration
A British-German initiative of the British Council
and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)

If you are an undergraduate, a doctoral student or have recently completed a degree, are working on a research programme in Germany or in the UK, and are already cooperating with German or British partners, then ARC should interest you:

  • Since 1989 ARC has been sponsoring research projects in the fields of energy and environment, medicine and health, biotechnology, engineering and materials science, information and communications technology, science communication and public engagement in science and science policy.
  • The ARC programme was initiated to further collaboration, particularly among young researchers, in the United Kingdom and Germany.
  • ARC provides financial support for project based exchange visits. Projects should be based on an existing cooperation between German and British research teams and should be one year in duration.
  • The programme is jointly funded and managed in Germany by the British Council and the DAAD.

For further guidance on the application procedure please see here.
