Simon Winchester, a highly acclaimed journalist
and author, has reported from all over the world during his award-winning
career as a Guardian foreign correspondent. He studied geology at
Oxford and often deals with geological topics in his books. His breathtaking
scientific crime novel Kracatoa: The Day the World Exploded
examines the enduring effects of the catastrophic eruption of the
world's most dangerous volcano.

The author and critic Andrew Crumey was born
in Glasgow. Before he started writing, the author studied mathematics
and theoretical physics at the University of St. Andrews, going
on to do a PhD in theoretical physics at Imperial College, London.
His most recent novel, Mr. Mee, centres on the long vanished
Rosier's Encyclopaedia, a 200-year-old French text with the potential
to challenge the existence of the universe.

| Milan Jaros
was born in Prague and works as a professor for theoretical physics
and Director of the Centre for Research in Knowledge Science and Society
at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne.
