winner of the Whitbread Book of the Year for his book Twelve Bars Blues, an accessible, dizzying ride through the streets of New Orleans at the turn of the last century. He has written about music, often hip-hop, for magazines such as Q, The Face and Mixmag.
DJ Ipek ( Ipek Ipekcioglu) style is a groovy, feminine, strong, sensual vibe that incorporates nu-oriental dance, pop, desi-Bollywood-bhangra-Indian-sounds, breakbeat, techno and house. She is resident DJ at “Gayhane” in SO36, an event that attracts various sub-cultures from the gay-lesbian as well as various immigrant communities in Berlin and has appeared at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt, WOMEX and the Berlinale. As a qualified social worker, Ipek has published numerous articles on identity and homosexuality.
All readings/performances are in English and begin at 20.00 hrs., with Music Lounge until around 23 hrs.
