British Shorts
Short films and workshop with John Digance and Dave Green

Lichtspielklub proudly presents the 5th Lichtspielklub Short Film
Festival! For the 5th time Lichtspielklub presents young (and
short) films from Great Britain!

For five days we’ll show you documentaries, animations, comedy, drama, experimentals and much more from the home country of dirty weather. Made by British directors, film students and other filmmakers that are somehow connected to Britain.

As part of the BRITISH SHORTS Film Festival we will be running a workshop centred on the idea of Journey.

Through screenings we will explore how mainstream and experimental film makers have long been inspired by the idea of Journeys which might be physical, mental internal or external. Those attending the workshop will then make a short film in which they will portray one section of a Berlin Journey. It should be fun.

The workshop will be taught in English and those attending will need access to camera and editing. We are more interested in ideas than technology so domestic equipment is fine.

The workshop will be run by film teachers Dave Green and John Digance who have run successful academic and creative courses in the University and Community Ed. sectors in Britain, Sweden, Spain, Russia and China and will be coordinated by media worker, film maker and photographer, Julia Elger.

Students will watch and discuss short British Experimental Films about cities and journeys and several Berlin films – and produce, in a day, their own journey films which explore aspects of the journey in Berlin.

For the fourth time the Sputnik Kino, a traditional arthouse cinema in
Berlin- Kreuzberg and the Schaubühne, Berlin’s best place for contemporary theatre, will be the hosts of the festival.

A new venue 2012 will be the wonderful HBC at Berlin Alexanderplatz. We welcome all filmmakers in Berlin to discuss their work. In addition there will be a workshop with lecturers from the University of Bedfordshire, discussions, concerts, partys, an open screening and an exhibition.

Details of the programme will be announced on www.britishshorts.de in late December.

We are also extremely thrilled to award the best short film for the
first time in our festival's history
