Mobility and Inclusion

Highly-skilled Migration in Europe
International Conference

The need for a comprehensive dialogue on managing highly-skilled labour migration is pressing amid the global economic crisis that forces developed countries to protect their markets while asking:

  • What is the level of demand for highly-skilled labour in European labour markets in times of financial crisis?
  • How can Europe balance its demographic instability?
  • How are immigrants integrated into the European labour market?
  • How do EU Member States cooper ate in managing their labour markets and labour forces? And what are the effects of brain-drain or demographic shifts in the countries of origin?

As a follow-up to their international symposium European Governance of Migration that was held in September 2008, the Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung is organising an expert conference in February 2010 in Berlin with the title „Mobility and Inclusion - Highly-skilled Labour Migration in Europe - in co-operation with British Council, US Embassy and International Organization for Migration (IOM).

The conference will offer a forum for exchange of ideas between policy-makers, researchers, and relevant organizations such as trade unions and employees organizations. The main goal is to draft new policy recommendations. Established experts in the field from Europe, USA, Eastern Europe, representatives of Governments, the European Commission, and international institutions are invited as speakers at the Conference.
