Support and development for English language teachers

PARTICIPANTS AND PARTNER INSTITUTIONS
We work together with state institutions responsible for teacher training in order to identify teacher trainers, Fachberater and similar Multiplikatoren who will participate in our courses. These multipliers are best placed to then pass the content onto school teachers in their local area. Partner institutions are usually asked to take on some organisational responsibilities and costs, including publicity and/or arranging the venue.

WORKSHOPS FOR TEACHER TRAINERS
We are currently offering two workshops for teacher trainers. Our National and Cultural Identity workshop deals with themes common to the upper-secondary school curriculum (Sek II). These are addressed using contemporary media and texts with a UK perspective and include ethnic diversity , integration and exclusion and nations between tradition and change . We also offer an E-projects workshop, which aims to give an overview of the British Council's websites for both learners and teachers of English and how these can be a useful resource for teaching ideas and materials, methodology, classroom activities and the promotion of learner autonomy.

COURSE CONTENT AND MATERIALS
Each course comprises up to 6 hours and is given by a British English native-speaker trainer. All worksheets and presentation slide materials are available for teacher trainers to take away with them in hard or electronic format. Any other media suggested for exploitation can easily be purchased commercially. Peer group discussion and participation is included in the National and Cultural Identity workshop to give an opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences with fellow teacher trainers. Participants in the E-projects workshop will work hands-on with the online material to develop schemes of work or pathways tying in with the school curriculum.

LOCATION AND VENUE REQUIREMENTS
We are happy to discuss options for scheduling and preferred venue with the partner institution. Subject to trainer availability, venue capacity and having the required technological equipment in place we can consider the scheduling of the workshops at any location across Germany.

COSTS
Fees are €50 per hour for the whole group. For courses outside Berlin you will also be asked to cover the trainer's travel costs.

Expressions of interest in possible collaboration are welcome: please send an e-mail to michael.croasdale@britishcouncil.de with at least 3 months' notice.

We look forward to hearing from you.
