What is Road to IELTS Online?

  • 30 hours of free online self study materials from the British Council to support your preparation
  • Exclusively for registered candidates
  • 3 units, each based on commonly used IELTS topics
  • Each unit covers all four sections of the exam (reading, listening, writing and speaking).

 

What will the materials allow me to do?

  • practice IELTS listening tasks under timed conditions
  • view sample videos of speaking tests, highlighting good and less good practice
  • develop vocabulary and techniques for writing tasks 1 and 2
  • work on authentic texts for the reading test as in the real exam
  • develop vocabulary in topic areas commonly used in the IELTS exam

Is Road to IELTS Online all I need to prepare for the exam?
Road to IELTS Online is a self study resource which we recommend you follow along with other forms of preparation (face to face courses or self study preparation books). See here for other preparation resources offered by the British Council.

How and when do I get access to the materials?
Please note: We are currently changing the access to the online system. There are two different links you have to use, depending on the depending on the type of access data you received:
If you received your access data as a 12-digit Access code and Password (e.g. 1280-8666-1111 und Passwort 5B847524), please click on the following link.

After that please follow the instructions below:

  • Enter your access data as received with your confirmation email.

  • You will be asked to enter your name, email address, a new password and your test date.

  • You will then be able to access the materials and work yourself through the lessons. You can also exit the system and log back on afterwards as many times as you want.

  • Please note that when trying to access the system after you logged out, you will have to enter the access code you have been given, plus the new password you created.

  • Please note that the access is for your personal use only. Your logon details will expire one week after the test date you entered. The access code will automatically lead you to materials for the test module you have chosen (academic, general training)

If you received your access data as IELTS Reference Number (e.g. DE708-934-5122) in combination with your own email address, please click on the following link.

  • Enter your access data as received with your confirmation email.

  • You will then be able to access the materials directly and work yourself through the lessons. You can also exit the system and log back on afterwards as many times as you want.

  • Please note that the access is for your personal use only. Your logon details will expire one week after the test date you entered. The access code will automatically lead you to materials for the test module you have chosen (academic, general training)

What if I forget my personal log on details?

You should access the Road to IELTS portal
and request your password which will be automatically sent to you.
