| The British Council Germany has developed a tailor-made English language course for Information Professionals, i.e. for information managers, librarians, documentalists and similar professions What is this course about?
The course focuses on developing both your confidence and competence in using English in your work environment.
Who is this course for?
If you work in an information centre, library or other public information or research environment, and if you need to communicate with international visitors or professional contacts, the course is perfect for you.
What does the course entail?
Among others, the course covers the following areas of activity:
- presenting and describing your organisation
- politenesses and smalltalk
- participating in meetings
- meeting and greeting visitors to the library
- dealing with enquiries and phone calls
- explaining procedures
- written correspondence in English
- using the English professional vocabulary
In addition, the course includes an introduction to UK institutions in the library and information sector, as well as to relevant British Internet resources . Moreover, those courses which take place at our premises in Berlin feature a visit to the British Council Information Centre with a hands-on session.

How long is the course and where is
it taking place?
18 hours over 3 and a half days are given over to lesson time. The course is held several times per year at the British Council’s premises in Berlin or at partner institutions in other cities.
Besides, interested institutions can book it as in-house course provided there are enough participants (a minimum of 10). For this purpose, there is also a shorter two-day version available. Our trainers adapt the contents of this version to the needs of the hosts.
How much does it cost?
The participation fee for the full course is € 250,- per person (including lesson materials and refreshments).
Which are the next course dates?
In order to meet the growing demand for this course, the British Council Germany plans to run future "English for Information Professionals" jointly with a German institution. We are currently in negociation with several potential partners. As soon as such cooperation model is established, we will announce new course dates on this page. |
