IELTS - der Test

"I wish to thank the IELTS team for your friendly service. Wanting to get some information, I could immediately ask the IELTS invigilators who gave me excellent answers.

Last but not least, I would like to point out that IELTS is an extremely useful test if you want your
English to be assessed on an international scale.
I am going to recommend the test to everybody
who is obliged to have their language skills evaluated."

The test that sets the standard

What is IELTS?

IELTS is the International English Language Testing System. It is an internationally accredited English language proficiency test. If you intend to take up a job or a course of study, in Germany or abroad – wherever English language skills are required, IELTS is the test of your choice.

Three highly reputable education institutions are working together to administer the test: the British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations.

Why IELTS?

International recognition
More than 6.000 educational institutions, government agencies and professional organisations in 135 countries recognize IELTS results as a valid language proficiency test – more than 3.000 just in the US. This makes IELTS one of the most universally recognized English language tests in the world.

Focussed on practical needs

IELTS tests English as it is used in work, study and everyday life. This is done by assessing all four areas of language proficiency: listening, reading, writing and speaking. More about the test.

Fair test conditions

IELTS takes great care to assess language skills as fairly and true to the real world as possible. Because of this, IELTS is the only internationally accredited English language test where active speaking skills are not assessed via a computer, but in a face-to-face interview with an experienced examiner.

Contrary to other language tests, candidates are allowed to take a bottle of water with them into the test room – a comfort not to be underestimated in a two-and-a-half hour test situation. In addition, candidates move on to the next part of the test together, ensuring the peace and quiet they need in order to concentrate and perform at their best.

Free online preparation
The new "Road to IELTS" offers a unique service to prepare for the IELTS test. 30 hours of free online preparation materials for every candidate. More information about "Road to IELTS".

Fast results

Many IELTS candidates need their test results to apply for jobs or HE courses. We therefore guarantee the fastest possible turnaround time for IELTS results and make results available after 13 days.

Every candidate can access their result online on the evening of the thirteenth day after there test. At the same time, certificated are sent out to candidates from our office in Berlin (not from another country as is the case with some providers), which ensures the fastest possible delivery to candidates within Germany.

Regular and widespread testing
The British Council keeps up a large network of test venues in Germany. The test can be regularly taken in 14 cities - up to 36 times a year.

No additional costs
The test fee of €190.00/€200.00 also includes the dispatch of your test results to up to five institutions of your choice.
