  • Conference: "Legal English Teachers in Germany 2006", University of Greifswald, 25-27 May 2006
(Sent on behalf of Dorthe G. A. Engelhardt, University of Greifswald)

The Faculty of Law and Economics of the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-University of Greifswald is hosting the conference “Legal English Teachers in Germany 2006” from 25 to 27 May 2006. Its aim is to provide a forum in which legal English teachers from all over Germany (and beyond) can share their professional interests and experience with each other. Registration is open to all university teachers and language trainers who are interested and work in the field "English for law" in Germany. Participants from other countries are also very much welcome, though it should be pointed out that some parts of the conference will be allocated to issues related to teaching legal English in Germany only.

We look forward to the presentation of a newly developed legal English course by Cambridge University Press. Cambridge ESOL Examinations will give an introduction to the International Legal Examination Certificate (ILEC). Prof. Dr. Uwe Kischel, LL.M. (Yale), attorney-at-law (New York), Mercator Endowed Chair of Public Law, European Law and Comparative Law (Northeastern Europe) at our faculty, will open the conference with a paper on “Translation, Culture and Comparative Law”. However, what will turn the conference into an even more stimulating and rewarding event are the contributions by the legal English teachers attending it.

All information and necessary forms can be accessed via
www.uni-greifswald.de/~dek4/tag06ind.htm

Please note: The stated deadline for applications (speaker and participant) for this conference was 27 March 2006 but the organisers are also considering late submissions.
