Following the success of the 2003 conference in Berlin (Quality Development in ELT), we held a second conference in March 2004 on Standards in language learning and the Common European Framework

The sub-themes were

• Levels of achievement (List of speakers)
• Curriculum development (List of speakers)
• Assessment and self-assessment (List of speakers)
• CLIL (List of speakers)

Twenty European countries were represented by speakers and participants and the event helped to show that standards and areas such as primary language learning, combining the learning of language and content, and intercultural learning are pressing concerns across Europe . The conference was a forum for the exchange of ideas and a showcase for best practice.
