British Council ELT Conference,
7 - 8 March 2003 |
 |
 |
 |
In 2003, we organised a residential conference
and networking event in Berlin, called Quality Development.
This brought around 150 people from the ELT community mainly in the
new Länder together. The conference was aimed at teachers, trainers
and policy-makers.
The overall theme was quality development with sub-themes
of primary teaching, evaluation
and intercultural learning. Sessions on policy issues
were combined with more 'practical' sessions aimed at classroom teachers.
The three conference topics were:
Primary and transition to secondary
- What role do curricula play? What techniques work best and
from what age?
- What skills and training do teachers need?
- How do we ensure continuity from Primary to Secondary?
Evaluation
- Assessment and self-assessment: teachers' and learners' perspectives
- Working towards quality and comparability in testing different
skills at different ages
- Impacts of the Council of Europe Framework and the European
Language Portfolio
Intercultural Learning
- How is the field of Intercultural Learning developing?
- Ideas for encouraging students' active involvement in the intercultural
learning process
- How can foreign language skills be a tool for wider cultural
reflection and exchange?
Participants also had the chance to experience Benjamin Zephaniah
performing some of his poetry - www.benjaminzephaniah.com. |
