| We live in an increasingly diverse society. In British schools, for example, one in eight pupils comes from a minority ethnic background. As their school achievement will determine their success in later life, it is very worrying that many minority ethnic young people underachieve.
The seminar focuses on the issue of how schools can be encouraged to educate for the acceptance of cultural diversity and on the impact of policies, practice and procedures within schools and the wider education system. The seminar brings together 12 policy-makers, head teachers and school administrators each from both the UK and Germany.
The format of the seminar is based on open discussion sessions with initial statements and a closing session which draws together the findings of the discussions. The programme is designed to reflect those aspects of the theme which are of importance to participants as leaders in the field in their respective countries.
There are four areas of discussions, i.e. sessions:
- Citizenship and School Education
- Intercultural Training
- Language and Diversity
- Best Practice Schools – Presentation of exceptional examples, schools or models
