David Hinton: Art from the Arctic

David Hinton is a director of arts documentaries and performance films. He worked for ten years on The South Bank Show, where he made documentaries about artists of all kinds - including Francis Bacon, Alan Bennett, John Cleese, Bernardo Bertolucci and Little Richard. He has also directed television versions of stage shows, and collaborated with choreographers to create dance works specially for TV. He has twice won BAFTA awards for his documentaries, and his dance films have won many awards including an Emmy and a Prix Italia.

Art From The Arctic, a 60 minute film directed by David Hinton, first broadcast on BBC FOUR on 21 February 2006 as part of Climate Chaos - a major season of BBC programmes on the science behind and issues surrounding climate change. The film recently screened on BBC TWO, on Wednesday 31 May as part of the returning Climate Chaos season.

Between 2003 and 2005 David Hinton travelled 2,500 nautical miles on three expeditions aboard the schooner Nooderlicht filming artists, scientists and educators exploring the pristine environment of the High Arctic as part of the Cape Farewell project. Witness the artists' response to their surroundings - from silent admiration at the drama of the landscape to awestruck wonder as a yet another massive glacier disintegrates into the sea.
