Siobhan Davies

Davies is one of the UK’s leading choreographers and artistic director of the Siobhan Davies Dance Company. She was lead dancer and choreographer with the London Contemporary Dance Theatre (1972–1987), associate choreographer for Rambert Dance Co (1988–1993) and founder member of Second Stride (with Richard Alston and Ian Spink).

Her other work has included commissions for the Royal Ballet and
Artangel. Davies was named one of six creative Britons in 2000 and awarded a CBE in the New Year’s Honours list 2002 in recognition of her outstanding contribution to dance.

"I was aware of the different ways ice and snow make us and other animals move. Reindeer roamed towards us, their pace long, high stepping, like a dressage horse.

On the ground ptarmigans, round white birds, scuttled very fast before vanishing into more white. Our walking turned into slipping on ice or pushing our heels down into snow to help us keep upright while going down hill."
